Retailing Management

About Retailing Management The term Retailing Management is actually a book title, but it's so much more than that. Retail is what makes up more than half of our workforce, or is at least categorized under retail. If we were to look at business under a much stronger microscope, we would see that there are other jobs that could be characterized as retail, but right now we will just focus on retail stores like Macy's, Wal-Mart and many others. There are also courses on Retailing management at many colleges around the country that are available to help train students properly to manage their retail business, and understand how they can make the business work cohesively not just for profit, but to focus on the customer and effective ways of appealing to the customer. Part of the idea of being profitable in retail is by getting the customer not just interested in your business, but by getting them to purchase and return for more purchasing in the future.

Other Components of Retailing Management There are other things to consider when discussing and evaluating retail management, such as performance, advertisement, and a referral system. Performance is simply discussing how the business is doing in general, how your retail business compares to other retail businesses, and how each and every employee is performing in their day to day tasks as well as how they are comparing to their own performance in the previous year or month. What you can measure is important, and will teach you over time how to make more changes. Advertisement is another aspect of retail that should be followed and tracked diligently. How do you draw your customers into the store? Is it through the hottest item on the market today? Is your company now making one of their own? Or, is it just through the means of having a sale over and over again? Those companies who run sales often, most likely don't focus on much of anything else, like customer satisfaction or a variety of inventory.

A referral system can be hard to track in a big box store, but for those who are a small, independent shop may do really well with this type of setup. A referral system is great, but the best referrals of all are those in which a current customer refers someone else to your store to come and shop. Even if it's a chain store, there are some locations that are better than others. Service might be better, or selection might be better; whatever the case may be, referrals should generate 60% of your business if you have been operating for several years. This would say that you are doing something right, and focusing on all the areas that are important to running your retail operation. The Core of Retailing Management What makes retail run? The people are what make retail what it is, and smiling faces are a big part of it. Training someone pricing and where to put things on a floor are easy, but training people to smile isn't. Some have it and some don't; this is a big part of retail management.
